Quick Observation

Did a quick solo lap off the alpine ridge leading to the Upper Bosworth Weather Station. Skied the west aspect from 2500m, into the drainage and all the way to the wildlife fence. Alpine snow was not as bad as I was expecting after skiing Paget Peak's west aspect a few days ago. Instead of ice there was wind affected powder snow over the old firm ice layer. The cold has definitely helped this new snow from sliding on the ice layer but not sure I'll be trusting this when it warms up. The snow at and below treeline was really good, a bit slow moving on lower angle terrain but once you get a pitch it skis very well. Coverage in the looker's right drainage of the middle forest rib (we call it Trucker's Drainage as it ends at the chain up area at the highway) is much better than a month ago. I had to get out of the drainage for only a couple of short sections due to deadfall and didn't see any open water sections either. Very cold wind along the ridge, got some sun near the top of my line but just barely.
