Mountain Conditions Report

By late August, conditions on Mount Edziza have turned cold. There is new snow above 2200 m. Glacier conditions were challenging as rain had frozen on the ice rendering it impassable without crampons even on gentle grades. The trails are in reasonable shape with the exception of the Chakima Creek trail (the exit to Mowdade Lake) which is very muddy and heavily overgrown with willow. It is reasonably easy to follow, but the last 3 km require constant wading or bushwhacking. In the Spectrum Range, Naga Creek was high but this should have subsided with the cold weather. The trip is still feasible but cold and windy weather should be expected. Crampons and glacier gear are required for the summit.
Location: 60.33238608 -130.68237305
