Observation

Did some snow pit work in the low alpine and skied a couple of laps down into treeline. Snowpack is highly variable for depth, two separate full profile pits had a difference of 30cm for HS and as you skinned around you could get down to 20cm in places. I would say the average is around 50cm for HS, with the deeper areas *maybe* getting close to 100cm. We had sudden collapse failures on both crusts in the medium tap range. Crust depth is dependant on HS. The facets on the ground where firming/rounding out and less wet than on the 18th when we looked at them. You could still make a snowball out of them though. Our skiing was good, didn't hit rocks and low ski pen thanks to the crusts and a bit of wind packed snow in the upper snowpack.
