Gentle snow and low winds. Skinned up to 2029m and dug a quick pit on an open northerly slope (1.5m snow depth) c30cm of fresh, unconsolidated snow sitting on top of a dense layer of windslab down 30cm. Snow below this layer seemed much more consolidated and 'right way up", apart from very obvious facets still in the base of the snow pack. Compression test failed at 13 taps on top of the windslab layer. Didnt see any signs of instability at any elevation when skinning up. Only noticed the windslab layer on the ridge top, but didn't seem reactive.
