HS ranged from 10cm at 1250m to 80cm at 2450m. 5mm MFcr sat on top of 10-50cm of progressively resistant snow above the early Nov 2-3cm knife MFcr. There were facets above and below the crust. The FC above the MFcr produced moderate non planar breaks in compression tests. The snowpack was well consolidated and carried skier traffic well even in shallow areas. Wide spread wind affect in the alpine, hard slabs with a MFcr vaneer provided consistent turns. A couple of soft turns were found in sheltered areas. Below 1900m, survival ski techniques were employed to avoid injury. It’s nice to be back on skis, but it’s a slow start to the season in the Valhallas. Hopefully this week’s precipitation will bring more wintery conditions.
