Davis crust busters

Adventured up towards Davis today. We’d heard talks of a freezing rain crust, but as we started skinning we were feeling hopeful. As we dropped into our line we indeed found a crust a little more stout than we’d hoped. In the alpine the crust was somewhere between supportive and breakable, right in the sweet spot. As we descended towards the valley it became less thick and the ski quality improved… slightly (the alders still need to see a little more coverage). This crust was found on all aspects and elevations. We found 2-5mm surface hoar at treeline, more spotty in the alpine. Felt like a slight temperature inversion in the afternoon. Overall, pretty alright day out.
