Quick report
Stability of the upper snowpack decreased rapidly right around noon as the snowpack warmed. The upper snowpack is saturated and has lost cohesion. Thin coverage and bare ground are showing in many places. We saw evidence of one recent cornice fall and lots of large drooping cornices. Over all we had enough stability to ski a steep line, but we did not want to linger any longer than necessary.
Avalanche
Natural and human triggered wet loose avalanches were popping off from around noon onward. The avalanches we saw that occurred today were relatively small, but there was ample evidence of recent large wet loose avalanches that ran long distances. With the added load of new mixed precipitation be aware that the wet loose hazard will rise as temps increase each day.
