Quick report
I toured into Huntington Ravine to observe the snowpack and how the new snow was adhering to the icy bed surface from last week given the past three days of high winds. I was able to view the entire ravine up to the ice bulge below central/diagonal and experienced strong winds mostly out of the N/NW with some changes around the whole compass. I observed little new snow, and very small amounts of wind loading on S and SE aspects. From visually looking at the snow below the ice bulge, I could make out a thicker slab on skiers left of the boulder field below central. Escape Hatch and South had minor loading on skiers left that appeared mostly wind-affected rather than a slab. There was some skiing to be had lower down in the ravine, but it was mostly wind-affected and required a major bushwhack. The snowpack appears right-side up with about 2-4cm of windward plastered to the icy bed surface on the floor of the ravine. Wind-blown snow was starting to consolidate higher up into isolated slabs higher up on leeward sides of the Huntington Ravine trail, but this is isolate and in no way representative of any existing avalanche problem. I was able to keep my skis on the entire time both in and out, but be advised that the trail into the floor of the ravine is very undermined in some spots, as well as the top part of the trail over the Cutler where one could easily break through into the water below. This terrain will likely need a significant storm to fill back up. Great day to sit inside and drink a shirley temple.
