Quick report
Toured through the Elephant drainage searching for the 3/16 BSH likely buried 4-6" down. Was not able to identify the layer in any locations traveled. A skier triggered D2 on a Southeast facing slope at 5000ft was observed. Crown was 10" at its deepest point and propagated 300ft down the slope onto a more southerly face. Failure apeared to be a layer of facets on top a melt freeze crust. Melt freeze crusts found on aspects with significant solar radiation can provide an effective bed surface for weak snow to fail on. With more sun in the forecast take note of how warm the snow is becoming and watch for falling ice and cornices from rocky areas in the sun.
