Quick report

Our plan was to tour up to Mt. Olsen. When we arrived at Virginia Lakes, west winds were transporting snow across the peaks. Solar aspects were dense while the majority of terrain was wind pressed. Ski penetration was about 12 cm. We dug a pit at 9987 ft on a north aspect. HS was 135 cm. Snow was mostly fist hard to 4 fingers down 35 cm and then 1 finger to 30cm. Below to the ground were rotten facets. Our extended column test results were ECTPV, essentially collapsing while cutting. We decided to bail and turn back. Shortly, afterwards, light snow fell and visibility was reduced by clouds in the alpine.
