Quick report
The goal was to find winter snow on what could be the end of the endless high pressure inversion. Goal achieved on an E/NE slope between 7800 and 6200 ft. Slight refrozen surface crust on due East exposure but NE was still dry settled powder. Some surface hoar but spotty distribution up high and more prevalent in lower forest zones. Facets are all baked off on sunny slopes. 12/7 crust stout at 7800 ft with some sugary facets above and below. Snow above was not really slabby but seemed to be starting to dry out and facet throughout. The shallow layer above the 12/22 minor crust was somewhat reactive and cracked a bit but didn’t slide, except late in the day, where the top 5-10cm was wet sliding on south slopes with ski cuts.
