Quick Observation
Dawn patrol this morning in the GNP -7 at 0700 at the hermit carpark Travelled between- 1300-2500m in the Swiss/Hermit area. Weather today was some clouds with sunny periods with consistent moderate winds and strong gusts. We observed significant wind transport on southerly aspects in the area with visibility being obscured during times because of the amount of snow being moved in the hermit meadows. Shooting cracks and 15-30cm winds slabs were propagating upon stepping on unsupported southerly slopes above 2000m. See photos of cracking. We observed one notable size 2.5 on the south face of Mount Rogers. We observed several size 1-1.5 natural and even one possible skier accidental avalanche on south west aspects upon exiting. Hermit path ski quality has improved greatly recently with the cliff/ waterfall filling in. The lower section is very manageable to ski to car if traversing skiers right into the thicker forest.
