More solstice storm cycle carnage.
Went looking for soft snow to ride so kept to mostly protected terrain but did get into upper elevation open terrain. Traveled the north half of the compass to 10,300. While the upper elevation wind exposed terrain was somewhat wind affected where we were, I was surprised that it wasn't more hammered from the east winds.
In walking around, poking and digging I was finding a stiff supportable slab that felt strong and well bridged. My CT test's seemed to reflect differently with mostly easy effort failures in the basal facets. I didn't perform and ECT. Even with the low scores on the CT's I still felt like there was a low to moderate danger where we traveled.
I have seen a lot of evidence of old slides from the height of the solstice storm cycle but nothing recent. Many steep slopes facing the north half of the compass slide during that cycle.
Snowpack
About an inch of snow overnight.
Some surface/near surface facets observed but the warm weather has been helping to keep faceting in check and rounding out the faceted grains that formed in the cold weather.
