Quick Observation
Cloudy and windy day out on Whymper, flurries falling all day and winds picked up around noon which lead to us turning around. Small loose dry off all aspects observed throughout the day, with evidence of old size 0.5-1 wet loose slides off the east faces, possibly from solar input earlier in the week. Snow was 5-30 cm of fist density on top of the Jan 30 facets, with some hand shears crumbling and denser slabs failing easy on hand shears. Skiied quite well, we stayed away from convex unsupported lines where possible. Set of a small slab (maybe 100cm wide) over old tracks that didn't run further than the other side of the rack, and got one settlement as we skinned over old avi debris, but no other signs of instability. Skinning was challenging with an unsupportive snow pack anywhere off the skin track, which seems par for the course so far this year.
