Snow Surface: 2-4mm surface hoar on all open areas, from parking lot to 2500' on the ridgeline. This surface hoar sat on: @ 400' (parking lot): 3" of soft dry snow over a stout, moist melt freeze crust to the ground. HS = 35cm. @1200': 6" of soft dry snow over a thick, supportable moist melt freeze crust. @1700': 12" of soft snow over ~6" of moist snow, sitting on moist facets. @2000': 12" of soft snow over ~10" of moist snow, sitting on moist facets. See pit profile below for structure at 2500', just north of the Eddies ridgeline near the headwall. Dry snowpack at this elevation. Snowpack: Probed from 2400' - 2500' along the ridgeline, and while a fairly consistent 6-8" of soft snow could be found on the surface, wildly different heights of snow (40cm - 270cm) with a combination of soft and hard layers in short distances showed that winds have moved a lot of snow in this location so far this season. A snowpit location was chosen just off the ridgeline to the north in a location where winds would have been less likely to have impacted the surface hoar during the last storm; a buried surface hoar (bsh) layer was visible down 60cm and failed in stability tests, with unremarkable results (see details below). At the pit location, the slab and bed surface below the bsh were of similar hardness and fairly soft. Given the potential for different bed surface and slab combinations in the region - and even in the immediate vicinity as exposed by probing - these test results were taken with a grain of salt! Two recent (since the last storm) glide avalanche releases on Seattle Ridge, roughly across from Sunburst and Magnum. Minor natural small dry loose activity on steeps of north aspect of Tincan, Seattle Ridge. Glide cracks opening up a variety of locations, including: - Seattle Ridge - but none over repeat offender yet! - South face of Eddies (see photo below) - North face of Tincan
