Quick report
Arrived at Dutchman at 745am. Temperature was 28F. I started in a t shirt and a softshell jacket. It wasn’t long before the jacket came off. Snow was firm all the way up with some isolated pockets of dry snow. Skinning was difficult near the ridge without binding crampons. On the ridge, winds were calm, gusting light from the west. I did not see roller balls on the face or wet loose activity out towards broken top or south sister. The snow was slightly moist but not wet or slushy. It was like a hot pow. I took one lap down and wrapped around towards the NNE face for the skin back up. The snow on that aspect was still dry which made the skin back up easier although it was a bit faceted up toward the ridge. The cohesion-less faceted snow would sort of slough down hill as I was traversing which made grip difficult on steep slopes. I took one more lap then made my way back down towards Dutchman. On the way down there were variable snow surfaces, ice, moist snow, and lots of deadfall to avoid. Sun protected areas with dry snow had well developed near surface facets. Much more developed than what I saw near the ridge. Overall snow quality was good on the face after cooking for a bit and I saw no avalanche activity or red flags. I would recommend binding crampons.
