The faceted snow is now buried roughly 2-5' deep, is overloaded, and can no longer support the weight of the new storm snow. The avalanche danger will likely reach extreme with more snow and wind on the way. There is no secret here. Strong snow and strong winds have overloaded a persistent weak layer, and human-triggered avalanches are certain. Deep and dangerous avalanches can and will be triggered on slopes steeper than 30°.
Persistent weak-layer avalanches are responsible for nearly 70% of all avalanche fatalities in Utah. Avoid avalanche terrain. Avoid being on or below any steep slope, as avalanches can run long distances.
