Today I took a short tour around the top of Home Run Bowl. Expectations were as low as the snowpack and I was not disappointed. I did find extensive cracking, with one slope just below me splintering into pieces after cracks shot 100’ or more away from me. I also had several loud collapses.
I performed an ECT at 9370’ on a safe slope with a 48° NE aspect with a slope of 28°. I got ECTPV when the entire column failed as a unit at the ground on weak sugary snow. Combined the with aforementioned lattice of cracks, I’d seen enough and carefully retraced my track home.
Snowpack

- <p>The sugar bowl is down there at the bottom. </p> <p>On the lee of the ridge the snow has piled up after yesterday’s heavy winds. The snowpack is very shallow but loaded nevertheless. </p>
Obvious wind drifts have formed along the length of the top of the bowl. These range from 1’ to 4’ high.
