Avalanche: Superior

Was just out for a morning stroll. Initially I wanted to take some turns on the Superior Apron. Multiple parties were on their way back from Country Lane, we stopped and chatted for a brief moment and said our goodbyes.

For those who know this line well; I stopped at the big orange rock (left) of the waterfall entrance. I was intrigued about going higher, but figured that I should just stick to my original plan, a conservative lap on the apron. I stopped, on the far lookers right corner of the big orange rock where I was shielded overhead. The ground was firm and wind-blown, however, 2ft to the right was all Graupel.

I could hear things getting shaken up but from far away. The moment I un-clipped my bag to transition, next thing I knew, there was a wave of snow coming over the rock at full speed. It knocked me down and I was going head-first downslope for roughly 250ft. Thankfully I was able to spin myself around into a seated position. Lost my poles and that’s about it.

Once I gathered myself and put my skis on, a much larger slide came down towards the base of Little Superior.
