Snow hides icy slopes, Crawford Notch, tranquil and still, Avalanche whispers. Crawford Notch held surprises today on NE slopes that we observed. With snow totals reaching above the forecasted totals, dry loose and storm slab problems built. Mostly holding a dry loose problem atop icy bed surfaces, some storm slab presented itself in the form of soft slightly consolidated snow cracking(small shooting cracks) during ski turns. Dry loose sluff was also present in every ski turn made is steep terrain. Worth watching out for these problems in this terrain, as most all terrain in Crawford Notch carries significant consequence due to the nature of its paths terminating in terrain traps. Instabilities were isolated to the upper 16cm of new snow lying on the icy bed surface.

I dislodged a piece of water ice, when I threw it down slope to avoid it from hitting my second it triggered the avalanche noted.
