Quick report
It's December, but it feels like May. Snow is settling fast, and surfaces are beginning to change, especially on southerly aspects where warm temperatures and solar input have dampened surfaces. Good coverage still exists, but be cautious, as many underlying obstacles are only masked by an inch or two of snow.
Small roller balls were observed on east, south, and west aspects near treeline. Falling rime ice was heard and observed on the upper flanks of Mount Shasta.Weather

Today, temperatures at 8,000 feet, remained above freezing levels for the fourth consecutive day. High Cirrus clouds aloft grew overhead, and the sun continued to shine bright and strong. Winds remained calm.
Snowpack
Variable snow conditions exist. Soft dry powder snow can still be sniffed out on shady northerly aspects at all elevations. On steep southerly slopes, snow surfaces continue to be impacted by the sun and warm temperatures, resulting in 10 cm of mushy surface snow. A mix of semi dry/soft snow surfaces can be found on all other aspects, with exposed areas (like moraines and ridgelines) presenting firm or scoured conditions.
