Overcast to obscured skies plus fog throughout. Light (S-1) snowfall. Winds were remarkably calm.
Snowpack
A lot of new snow recently. Numerous weak/ mid-storm interfaces in the upper snowpack (top two feet from the surface) that have potential to fail and produce a large avalanche. Deeper persistent grains/ faceted-crust remain stubborn, but continue to fail with moderate force in tests. Soft slab cracking along our skis on steeper convex rolls and when walking out onto the slope to dig the snowpit. A shallowly buried rime crust that formed at the tail end of this stormy period produced the most concerning propagating results in tests. The last bit of snowfall that fell is softer and drier than from eariler in the stormy period. As this surface snow settles and becomes more consolidated, we may see an increase in storm slab sensitivity in the coming days.
