Weather
We enjoyed clear skys and light breeze for most of the day. By afternoon clouds had moved into the area and ridge top winds increased. Little snow available for transport, but some surface hoar was being pushed around and we did watch a snow devil swirl across the slope.
Snowpack
Due to the prolonged cold/dry spell near surface facets have developed on all aspects over a right side up snowpack. As others have noted, a significant sun crust exists on exposed solar aspects but pockets of soft snow can be found in shaded areas. On the lee side of ridges we found small, thin and breakable Styrofoam like wind slab pillows. As we traveled across a mostly east facing slope we noticed significant changes in snow quality on subtle aspect changes: anything due east harbored the sun crust, but even slight roles to the northeast held dry faceted snow that skied well, while the true north slope we decended was superb.
