2026.04.11, 1:48pm Snow Pit Test Location: N of Mt Diamond E of “Back it in” Elevation: 4,500’ (30m below the visible rocks) Aspect: NW Slope: 31° Tests: - Height of Snow: 280+cm (perhaps extra deep from earlier season shedding off the rocks or wind side loading?) - ECT: [X, no propagation, just some isolated failures directly under the shovel with no planar layer failure] ALPTRUTH Over 90% of the avalanche accidents occurred when 3 or more of these factors are present ALPTRUTH Check List Avalanches in past 48hrs: Yes Loading via wind, snow, rain: Not in 48hrs Path: obviously avi path Yes Terrain Trap: No Rating: Considerable+ Yes Unstable snow: No Thaw instability: No at 1:48pm but yes, the sun was cooking by our third lap and slightly melting the surface. Traveled semi-cautiously (50m apart, had radios for comms) due to large overhead danger on a considerable day, but still skied and traversed avy terrain.
