Went for a low and slow tour on the main trail for Mt. Alice. New snow was 7-10” above 1000’. Winds were consistently 10+mph throughout the day, varying from S to E. Soft new snow was easily transported by the wind. Only toured to about 2200’. Dug a couple of pit tests, ECTN14 where the new snow was failing on old wind slab bed surface, ECTN22 where snow was failing at rain or melt/freeze crust. The melt freeze crust was over two feet thick and P/K hard. The snow surface before this storm was very wind affected, scoured down to a thick rain crust in spots or drifted into windboard in others. This new snow helped create a better riding surface, but those thin spots were still obvious. Slabs are definitely forming up there and while my tests didn’t have any propagation, the slabs were still relatively easy to burp off of the bed surface and were very cohesive.
