Quick report

Cracking
specific

•Developing, but thin, windslab along ridgeline, some cornice failure above 6500'. Cracking was isolated underfoot. •A thin rime crust capped the surface above 6500', limiting wind transfer •Light-to-moderate West winds throughout the day with minimal wind loading occurring at upper elevations from said rime crust. •We had fleeting views of alpine terrain along the Flathead Divide. No slab avalanche activity observed. •Below 5000' surface snow was 'heavy' from above freezing temperatures •Kept our terrain choices conservative and steered away from wind effected convexities. Skied planar slopes up to 35* •We experienced no signs of instability in the areas we travelled. I would expect steeper, avalanche prone areas to harbor reactive windslab. Minimal cracking underfoot along ridgeline from recent windloading
