Bowman Lake

Quick report

Surprised again by a sunny afternoon in the park. Enjoyed a cross country ski with an old pal up in the North Fork. Road conditions were cold, crisp, and excellent in the morning, and a little soft by late afternoon. Thick overcast dominated the valley until about 12:30pm when the clouds rapidly dissipated revealing nice views into the high country. Did not note any recent activity in the Bowman Valley other than recent wet loose slides way in the back of the canyon towards the divide. Was surprised to not see any action in the new snow on the steep southerly aspects of Rainbow or Numa despite ample sunshine and light winds. Was also unable to get eyes on any older crowns on these peaks from last weeks cycle. Either the new snow has disguised any older crowns or things stayed a bit cooler in this part of the world? We could only speculate. Wet loose avalanche activity viewed from afar. Hard to say if these were triggered by yesterday's warm up or today's warm up. Both days had ample afternoon sunshine and light winds.

Overcast morning transitioned to scattered/few clouds by late afternoon. Temps were around 28 degrees F at 930am this morning in Polebridge. Forgot to take a temp reading later in the day, but they well surpassed the freezing mark in areas exposed to the sun. Lots of trees dripping along the Bowman Lake Road.
