San Joaquin

I toured from Mammoth Mountain to June Lake. My goals were to look for recent avalanches, signs of instability, and monitor surfaces. 

I observed no recent avalanches and saw few signs of instability. I saw what looked like a somewhat recent cornice fall, but it did not trigger the slope.

The snow was surprisingly supportable throughout the afternoon, and some upper-elevation northerlies stayed frozen all day. I skied supportable snow at 2:30 pm from 11500 ft down to 9000 ft, and then unsupportable mush down to 7300 ft.

Coverage is nearly continuous from Mammoth to June, but is melting fast. Solars on the west side of the ridge below 10000 ft are almost entirely melted except in favored gullies. Polars have adequate coverage on most of the standard ski runs. I saw no evidence of recent avalanches in the immediate and surrounding areas.
