Quick report
Skied the Dogleg on Mount Scowden. We found full melt-freeze conditions on all northerly slopes up to the summit at 11.2k. Most of these slopes also were textured and somewhat bumpy, but fully supportable to boots. A good refreeze last night made conditions supportable at all elevations and on all aspects this morning. We found only a few small, isolated areas of winter snow, on the leeward side of small terrain features and mostly at the mid elevations. We descended at 1 pm, and the upper thousand feet on a true north slope were still quite firm, but edgeable and enjoyable. As we neared the dogleg feature itself, we started to find more softening. Where the dogleg turned NE, we found a mix of overcooked mank in shallow rocky areas, and well developed corn on a supportable base. The wide open apron was also good corn, which made even the textured snow ski quite well. We were able to stay on snow basically all the way to the creek, and a quick creek crossing and walk on the road brought us back to our car.
