Quick report
Warm weather, moderate winds, and wintry snow. Quality powder turns can still be found. Clear nights and inversions are present. Snow accumulations/primary areas of wind deposition can vary over small distances, even from ridgeline to ridgeline. Very small 2-6” wind slabs were released during ascent above 10,000’. Likelihood of propagation is minimal. No avalanche activity was observed in our trip to Virginia and Twin Lakes.

Snowpack
No notable problem layers deep in the snow, though isolated wind slabs exist beneath ridges. Widespread hoarfrost remains on sheltered north aspects. However, higher air temperatures are allowing the frost to consolidate. Above 10,000’ there is ample snow on peaks surrounding most valleys, and most lines are filled in with the exception of steep, wind-blown entrances.
