- Heavy Snowfall, Wind Loading, Cracking, Rapid Warming
We rode in the Northern Bear River Range today and found new snow instabilities. We had 5 or 6 small slabs break loose on us, 12 inches deep and 15-25 feet wide. All pockets were on steep slopes around 40 degrees. These did not run far since they were all on small roll overs. All pockets failed on northeast facing slopes at around 9000 feet. Sorry, no pictures today, it was all about getting face shots and not stopping to take pictures.
We also found excellent riding conditions. On the way back to the parking lot around 1PM, the snow was turning to mashed potatoes and by the time we got back to the parking lot it was warm and wet.
