Quick report

Snowpit analysis at elevation 8690ft, aspect east 100 degrees, slope angle 15 degrees, wind 0, air temp 47f, partly cloudy, around 2pm. We dug this as part of an avalanche safety course. Total snow depth 82cm. Notable soft, faceted layer at 51 to 59cm below the surface. Compression test revealed CT17SC at 54cm below the surface. Findings of the pit were c/w the regional avalanche center alerts about a dangerous persistent slab. Rising temperatures throughout the day led to a soft, heavy surface layer but we did not observe any evidence of wet loose activity on our low angle exploration.
