Quick report
We dug a pit in an opening in the trees exposing both buried surface hoar layers. Finding hoar 5mm in length in the older January layer. We conducted two ECT tests with results of ECTN23 and ECTN24 respectively at 154cm of the 218cm snowpack (the deeper january layer). This partial fracture did not propagate across the column showing less reactivity than we expected. The storm snow was unconsolidated and not behaving as a slab in this area. We also conducted a PST with a result of PST (85/120) Arr down 64cm. again less reactive than expected. After digging another pit in an open area we found buried surface hoar crystals 15mm in length leading us to believe our first site was sheltered from greater hoar development.
