Skiing in the Bridger Range today, we found a few inches of new snow that fell over last night.
Throughout the day it was cloudy and winds were blowing moderately with strong gusts, especially along the ridge, out of the west. Cornices and wind slabs have been forming with this recent new snow.
We dug a pit on the west side and found a 10" layer of near surface facets below 5" of new snow. Our test resulted in two ECTNs without propagation (ECTN12, ECTN48). The first ECTN broke in within the near surface facets.
On a side note:
We accidentally gathered chatting loudly near a black bear, which we then woke up. As soon as we saw the bear, we left the area.
