We tried pretty hard to make some little avalanches today by riding a lot of small test slopes where we thought the snow would be the weakest (wind loaded north and east facing slopes at the tree line). The only results we got however were shooting cracks in one isolated spot. We did pinpoint the weak layer of interest down 20-30cm. This is a layer of surface hoar that was buried a couple of weeks ago and is still reacting in our snowpacks tests. (ECTP 8 & 12 down 20). Other than that we found some fun sledding and skiing in more sheltered areas and in the trees.
