Incident

Snowboard accidental size 2 in 8812 Bowl on the southwest aspect of Bruins Ridge at 2350m. The subject traversed into 8812 Bowl about 2/3 the way up Bruins Ridge in steep, southwest facing alpine terrain. The avalanche released from ~100m above, was 30-60cm deep, 50m wide and ran for ~500m. The subject was able to release from their bindings and get free of the snowboard, but was carried for ~300m before coming to rest on the surface of the debris with only their legs partially buried. No injuries were sustained but the snowboard was lost. The group called for assistance and Parks Canada Visitor Safety technicians were able to extricate the subject via Helicopter. The remaining 5 group members retraced their steps down their skin track into valley bottom. A more detailed report will be post on the Parks Mountain Safety FaceBook page in the near future.
