Quick Observation
Good day on the little Sifton traverse. Skinning up grizzly shoulder was horrendous, a mix of dust on crust, icey bed surface and punchy wind slab. Luckily ran into a duo from Revy who helped us put the track in. Strong winds in the alpine today, most of the first section of the traverse was wind scoured once on top of the shoulder, but as we got closer to the col and slightly less exposed, it was back to breaking trail. Didn’t skin to the peak of Little Sifton because it was super wind loaded. The snow was amazing with surpsingly little wind effect for the first 650m down grizzly, but as soon as we hit 2000 and started traversing over to reach Puff Daddy on a more east aspect, it turned to 20cm of wind slab on an icey crust. Very touchy, basically every turn from 2000 until below treeline caused shooting cracks with lots of propagation and slabs popping off causing 1.5s left and right. Took some really careful sluff management style traversing to get through it.
