The snowpack on NW NTL was 85 cm deep. On any open slope, I got significant collapses. Ski penetration on these open slopes was generally shallow, and the snowpack was somewhat supportable. Stability tests showed that crack initiation would be relatively easy (ECTP11), and once initiated, these cracks would likely propagate (PST25/100 end). In these tests, the block popped off the column and slid energetically, more so than I have seen in weeks.
On north-facing below treeline slopes, I didn't dig down into the snowpack, but I found conditions to be more consistent with Loose Wet avalanches. I didn't get any collapses, but on steep slopes, I was easily able to push snow downhill that entrained deeper snow, causing small debris piles in a gully.
