Quick Observation

We traveled up Tunnel Creek and up the ridge between Sunnyside and Home Run to 1800m. We skied back down the ridge, SW aspect to the sneak through on the headwall. It was snowing in the morning and eased off around lunch. The wind was steady light to moderate at ridge-top through the day. There was approximately 10cm of new snow, where not wind-scoured, on top of facetted snow, old windslab, and sun crust on steep solars. We also observed snow transport through the day and the formation of new windslabs, as well as a whumpf at ridge-crest. We did see a natural avalanche (see avalanche report). The plan was to ski Home Run, however, due to wind transport and signs of instability, we decided to turn around.

Avalanche Information

We observed this avalanche from a distance, and it occurred between 1 and 2 pm.
