Northern San Juan

Ski cuts easily released Loose Dry avalanches on steep (39*+) mine dump slopes in north-facing terrain below treeline. I was surprised at how wide it fanned out and how much snow it entrained. It did not gouge to the ground, but slid on the Christmas crust.

Trapdoor conditions exist where the Christmas crust in the midpack has broken down. This seems to be more prevalent in open meadows.
