Went up the road towards Corbin Pass. Heavy, wet snow all the way up to the cutblocks. Super stormy in the open cutblocks. Stayed on the road in there and witnessed an avalanche releasing about 50-100 metres in front of us on a convexity. Fridge size chunks released and slid out of sight. Release depth ranged from 30-70 cms. Runout wasn’t visible.
A few seconds later we got whumpfed down, so it’s not really clear if we remote triggered the avalanche or if it whumpfed us after releasing naturally.
We still continued up into the trees above the cutblocks for some decent, though heavy, treeskiing. We didn’t descent through the cutblocks after this experience but skied down in the skintrack on the road. Time to step back today.
