Quick Observation

Deep conditions on Burnt Knob Jan 12. We dropped in around noon as the wind was starting to pick up. Skied from the south drop in point. Snow was light and somewhat creamy with ski pen around 40cm and whiteroom on every turn. We remote triggered a size 1 storm slab on the upper southern slope that ran maybe 40-50m and was about 8m wide with a 30cm-40cm crown. From the bench we traversed to the south exit chute. Ski cut the top with only about 5cm storm slab releasing. Dropped in on the chute and conditions were incredible, snow density slightly higher than the upper slope. Slough was substantial through the short pillows but the rest of the chute skied great as the pitch decreased. Lower section held creamy turns all the way down to the skin track.

Avalanche Information

Release occurred below a wide pillow that a skier approached.
