Observations from valley bottom of main Elk Valley: - West facing slopes have been wind hammered lately with ridge crest generally scoured down to rock. - East facing slopes looking loaded and well filled in. - Large cornices overhanging east facing slopes just about everywhere - Several recent cornice failures observed from past few days, most triggered slabs below, some down to basal facets and scrubbing out the snow to ground - most size 2-2.5, one size 3. - No recent avalanche activity observed on west facing slopes, where snow is wind stripped, wind pressed, and probably has patchy sun crust.
