Quick Observation

Skied into the basin below the north face of White Grouse today. The basin holds some very big and steep terrain, and we stayed away from that stuff for the most part. Dry snow on protected north aspects skied real nice. At 2050m north aspect observed an easy planar shear down about 20-25cm and another moderate one down about 45cm but nothing was moving when we ski cut steeper terrain features. A steep uptrack on a west facing rib produced some unnerving settlements in a shallower snowpack areas around rocks and trees at 2150m. Had the afternoon sun continued to beat down on us we might have turned around due to rapidly rising temperatures, but the crux was short lived and intermittent sunshine mixed with a light hazy and some clouds enabled us to continue on to our objective. West facing terrain had some wind pressed snow but still skied well. All in all a great day out to explore some new terrain for us.
