Snow Lake Divide

It was fairly warm out there today and that manifested in a few different ways.

1. It was socked in - at times you were in the golfball. Definitely hard to get views around the valley.
2. The snow was warm - and heavy! Trail breaking and skiing were challenging in spots. Got a bit of clumping on the skins which slowed things down.
3. Snow was shedding from trees and rocks.
4. Settlement was obvious due to cracking at the base of snowy trees.

Speaking of trees, the tree bombs are huge right now and will pack quite the punch when they start to come down.

We jumped on some steep test slopes but couldn't get much moving.

Snow shedding from trees and rocks indicated warming. They resulted in pinwheels rollerballs, and even a few small slabs.

The snowpack is deep at Snow Lake Divide! I measured 322cm at 4770' NW. The Solstice Crust was down 168cm (almost exactly half).

Overall, the snowpack above the Solstice is right side up and well settled. You can still pick out the various interfaces from the last two weeks of stormy weather easily.

A layer about 20cm down failed at 13 during a CT and an ECT, but did not propagate. It looks like failure grains were some rimed stellar arms. It was also highlighted in tilt and shear tests.
