Quick report

Conditions were highly variable below treeline, with some locations having 12+ inches of freshly deposited snow. Other areas only had about 4 inches atop a firm crust. We completed a hand shear test on the side of a skin track in an area with more snow accumulation. Hand shear failed about 12 inches down with moderate effort. Snow profile observed in sidewall of test was 4 inches of fist harness, over 8 inches of 4F hardness, over a 1 inch thick pencil hardness crust. Beneath the crust was about 2 inches of 4F hardness before another crust. After completing hand shear test, we tried stepping above the skin track and stomping, with no result. Small test slopes also produced no result. No observations of instability observed.
