Quick report
Our group dug 3 adjacent pits at 7,900 ft on a 110 degree east aspect, 17 degree slope to investigate the settling characteristics of the new snow. Total snow depth was 160cm. The new snow started as fist hard at 160 cm and increased to 4 finger at its base at 80 cm. There was a narrow pencil hard layer at 70 cm and a fist/4 finger hard layer starting at 55 cm. Sudden planar fractures were observed at 130 cm within 10 moderate taps in all 3 pits.
