Sunny skies with much colder temperatures than yesterday. NE winds were moderate in some open below treeline areas.
Snowpack
We went out from Yuba Pass to Bonta Saddle today. Our plan was to stay mostly in below treeline terrain and look for soft snow to ride in. A variety of melt freeze and sun crusts could be felt on solar aspects with mostly soft unconsolidated cold snow still found in protected northerly below treeline areas. The upper snowpack in this terrain is made up of soft surface snow with a variety of rain crusts with lower density snow in between. Near surface facets and some faceting between these crusts are not well developed at this location and did not show unstable snowpack test results.
