Mostly sunny skies with mild temperatures today on Mt. Lola. Winds increased midday along the summit ridge.
Snowpack
We went to Mt. Lola to make field observations. Limited snow existed where we parked around 7600', but got deeper above 8000' with around 1.5-2' of snow above 8500'. The upper snowpack is made up of mostly weak faceted snow and sits on top of a dense firm basal ice layer on the ground on N-NE aspects above 8500'. Below this elevation and on other aspects less snow exists with no firm ice layer on the ground. Previous wind scouring on the upper bowl of Mt. Lola has exposed some areas down to this firm rain layer. More well developed faceted snow exists in wind protected near treeline and below treeline shaded northerly aspects in this area.
