Quick report

Cracking
widespread
Collapsing
specific

Touring up Judah on familiar terrain I began to see signs of instability almost immediately. Shooting cracks were present in any wind affected areas even in dense tree coverage. Throughout the tour I felt several collapses beneath the new snow and some subtle whumpfs. It seemed to be collapsing of the upside down storm snow but could have also been buried surface hoar. Remotely triggered several avalanches that broke 1 to 2 ft down. These avalanches were triggered on seemingly benign terrain, small rollovers in otherwise simple terrain. One avalanche triggered the entire span of a windloaded ridge and broke approximately 400ft across.

Avalanche

Several soft slabs were triggered remotely from adjacent slopes or mellow terrain beneath them.
